Dalton Sherman



Dalton Ridge Sherman is ten (10) years old and is a 5th grade student at Charles Rice Learning Center in the Dallas Independent School District. Dalton is on the “A” Honor Roll and aspires to someday be a television anchor.

Dalton is very determined and competitive. He enjoys participating in sports and plays soccer, basketball and baseball. Dalton is currently a “blue belt” in karate. He is an active member of the Children’s Ministry at Concord Missionary Baptist Church.

On January 16, 2008, Dalton was among eight (8) finalists to participate in the 16th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratory Competition, sponsored by Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP (law firm). Judges for the competition included: the Rev. Zan Holmes, Donica Jiminez, The Honorable Douglas Lang, Barbara Mosacchio, The Honorable Lorraine Raggio, Michael Sorrell, Everson Walls, Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins, and The Honorable Ernest White. Dalton was selected by the panel of judges as the 1st place winner and received a $1,000 savings bond and an invitation to perform at the Morton Myerson Symphony Center for the Voices of Peace Celebration honoring Dr. Maya Angelou on March 1, 2008 .

On February 10, Dalton was awarded the 2008 Scholarship Award for Extraordinary Achievement by the 21st Century Group, LLC. This was a $500 scholarship awarded to young people who display outstanding promise in the community. On August 19, 2008, Dalton was the keynote speaker at the Dallas ISD Teacher Convocation held in the American Airlines Center . Dalton spoke to over 17,000 teachers and district employees about the importance of educators believing in their students. As a result of his inspiring presentation, Dalton has been featured in the Dallas Morning News, The Dallas Examiner, The Dallas Weekly, The Urban Educator, and JET magazine. Due to the popularity of Dalton ’s You - Tube video, (see video below) he was invited to be a guest on The Ellen Degeneres Show. On November 17, 2008, Dalton appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show as one of her "Most Talented and Gifted Kids in the World". He has also been featured on the Emmy award winning show, "The Dallas School Zone" produced by the Dallas Independent School District.

Recently, Dalton was selected as Operation Hope's youth spokesperson for their 5 Million Kid Initiative. The 5MK is a national campaign to help improve the financial literacy of youth in our urban areas. Dalton continues to receive numerous requests to speak to Districts and organizations around the country and the world.

Dalton is the youngest of three children born to Mr. & Mrs. Carlos and Donna Sherman.
