George Dawson Memorialized Bronze Bust

Bust of George Dawson

In partnership with the community to promote literacy and education, the African American Read-In program of the Dallas County Community Colleges has commissioned a bust of George Dawson, the inspirational south Dallas man who learned to read and write at the age of 98.

Area schools and libraries will have a chance to highlight the bust, and Dawson's story and principles along with it, as part of the educational outreach program. The bust will also be featured at future read-in activities to remind the community of its rich African American culture as well as to inspire students of all ages with his amazing story of the power of literacy.

The unveiling of the bust followed the September 2002 opening of the new George Dawson Middle School in Southlake, Texas.

Download the donor form (pdf - 544 kb) to support the legacy of George Dawson and inspire students of all ages and backgrounds to read, live and learn to achieve their dreams. All funds raised in excess of costs associated with the George Dawson Memorial Bronzed Bust will be used to support African America Read-In program literacy activities.
